


The ingesting of food alters the levels of certain substances in the blood, sugars and fats in particular; one coffee can even interfere with results.
Levels of substances that are commonly tested and which are affected by eating: (by between approximately 50% and approximately 10% if a medium-sized meal is eaten) Triglycerides, Transaminases, Glucose, Leucocytes, Bilirubin, and Potassium.
Other substances are only minimally affected (by 5% if a normal meal is eaten) Sodium, Cholesterol, Erythrocytes, Calcium, Proteins.
In other tests, antibody and serology tests in particular, fasting has no effect on the result.
